Takreeya Hawkins
Takreeya Hawkins is a native of Camden, NJ. She has been dancing for over 20 years and teaching dance for over 10 years. Halliday Dance, in Pennsauken, NJ, is where she received her dance training. She is a graduate and former dance major of the Creative Arts High School in Camden, NJ. As a member of Kaighn Avenue Baptist Church in Camden, NJ, Takreeya is one of the praise dance instructors for the praise dance ministry (Messengers For Christ). This is Takreeya’s third year as an auxiliary advisor for the “Lady Jewels,” dancers of Willingboro High School’s Mystical Sound Machine Marching Band. At the age of 16 Takreeya started teaching dance for Camden’s Police Athletic League (PAL).
Overtime she has continued to teach/choreograph in the city of Camden. Some organizations include Unity Community Center’s Black History show ”Love Jam”, Camden Repertory Theater’s “For Colored Girls”, Dare 2 Dance’s student showcase and spring recital to name a few. Miss Hawkins is approaching her sixth year dancing with Grace Dance Theater (GDT) in Philadelphia, PA.
While dancing with GDT, she has been privileged to work with choreographers such as former Alvin Ailey member Kirven Douthit-Boyd, Eleone’s Dara Stevens-Meredith, Philadanco’s Tommie-Waheed-Evans, and Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway Lamar Baylor, just to name a few. Takreeya is encouraged to finish her studies at The University of the Arts, and plans on earning her BFA in Dance. This is Miss Takreeya’s second year at Dare 2 Dance, and she is honored to have another opportunity to teach dance to talented students in the city of Camden.
